Substance Misuse Prevention

The issue of substance misuse prevention is an effort that requires us to work together in the development of strategies and in finding ways of implementing those strategies into the community as a whole.

We help support other programs and other efforts and try to find ways within the already existing community agencies to fill gaps in services. It is our hope that all members of the community who have a concern about this will become a part of this effort. POP is a member of the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America and the Prevention Alliance of Tennessee. The primary support for the current activities of PoP is a prevention grant that came through those organizations. Address the opioid crisis by increasing access to medication-assisted treatment using the three FDA-approved medications for the treatment of opioid use disorder, reducing unmet treatment need, and reducing opioid overdose related deaths through the provision of prevention, treatment, and recovery activities for opioid use disorder (OUD) (including illicit use of prescription opioids, heroin, and fentanyl and fentanyl analogs). With the help of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) program, it also supports my use of evidence-based prevention, treatment, and recovery support services to address stimulant misuse and use disorders, including for cocaine and methamphetamine.

International Overdose Awareness Day

August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day and Power of Putnam would like to invite everyone to an event that we and our partners will be holding at Dogwood Park at 5:30 PM to commemorate those who have lost their lives to overdose and to raise awareness about this ever-increasing issue.

We will be having a glowstick vigil, overdose reversal training, personal testimonies, guest speakers, and resource tables from multiple community organizations, and we would like to invite the entire community to attend.
