Power of Putnam's programs are currently funded by the Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant (SPF-SIG). A main focus and goal of the SPF-SIG grant is to reduce underage drinking in the youth of Putnam County. POP has initiated the following programs in Putnam County in order to accomplish that goal.

Power of Putnam contracted with MMA Creative, a local marketing company to develop a media campaign to reduce underage drinking. The idea behind kNOw POWER is that teenagers already have the knowledge pertaining to the consequences and moral issues of underage drinking. kNOw POWER empowers them to use that knowledge to make the right decisions. The campaign includes youth focus groups, branding that is creative, exciting and youth oriented, an interactive web site, brochures, billboards, posters, radio public service announcements, specialty items that reinforce the branding, and publicity.       www.beaKNOWbody.com

POWER OF ONE

Power of One is a community empowerment campaign initiated by Power of Putnam. The idea behind Power of One is to encourage community members that ONE person can make a difference in the youth of Putnam County. But how can you make a difference? Include young people as active participants in events. Take an interest in the friends and activities of the kids in your neighborhood. Meet your children's friends, and their friends' parents. Encourage reading for pleasure, involvement in youth programs and faith-based activities, and time at home. Ask your kids where they're going and who they'll be with. Tell them you are proud of them, or just simply smile to show you care. Doing these simple everyday things will build assets - the qualities, experiences, and relationships that help young people grow up healthy, caring, and responsible - in our youth (Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets). For information, or to receive Power of One signs for your building, contact Kristi Allen at 931-520-7531 or kristi.allen@powerofputnam.org

RBS / Compliance Checks

Power of Putnam promotes community support of Responsible Beverage Service. Coalition members have been trained to conduct trainings to bartenders, servers, store clerks, or even of-age adults for responsible drinking classes. POP also supports local law enforcement's efforts to conduct compliance checks to retail stores, bars, and restaurants to ensure proper identification checks. We believe that the combination of increased enforcement, education, and awareness will promote responsible beverage service in Putnam County.
