Uniting for a Drug-Free Community

POP is a coalition that brings together community members concerned about the issue of substance abuse to work together in the development of strategies and in finding ways of implementing those strategies into the community. We help support other programs and other efforts and try to find ways within the already existing community agencies to fill gaps in services. It is our hope that all members of the community who have a concern about this will become a part of this effort. POP is a member of the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America and the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions across Tennessee. The primary support for the current activities of POP is a prevention grant that came through those organizations.

Vision:

A community that is united and empowered in its efforts to support the development of emotionally, socially, and economically health individuals and families.

Mission:

To partner with the diverse elements of Putnam County in a united effort to empower individuals, strengthen families, and build character and resiliency in its children and youth.

Power of Putmnam (POP) is a community partnership that brings together people and organizations concerned with the issues of substance abuse and violence, to work together in the development and implementation of prevention strategies. We strive to make our community an emotionally and physically safe place to live.

Purposes:

1. To obtain broad support that will increase the ability of the community to address social problems and work
together for a stronger, healthier community.

Membership in POP gives you an opportunity to become a part of the solution.
Together we can make a difference.

2.To Promote Developmental Assets.

Research shows that there are 40 Developmental Assets* that contribute to resiliency in
youth. The more of the assets children have, the more resilient they are and the more strength they have to resist the pitfalls of life. There are things that the community can do to help children acquire those assets.

Be a K nowbody. Join our campaign to reduce under-age drinking.

4. To build a youth coalition that will engage the young people of the community and empower them to address social problems, including but not limited to substance abuse and violence.

The Power of Putnam youth coalitions plan and carry out activities that encourage
drug-free commitments on the part of teens and serve as advisors in strategic
planning and in implementation of programs.

5. To bring the community together in identifying and addressing other social problems that weaken the community.
